File: README.TXT (LinkSIM Demo)
-------------------------------

General
-------

Thank you for considering LinkSIM, a package for simulation of advanced
fiber optic communications links.

This demonstration program enables you to explore the many features of
the package, as well as run several example simulations. If you have
any questions regarding either the demo or the full program, contact
RSoft by phone at 1-914-734-2665, or by e-mail at info@rsoftinc.com.

After Installation
------------------

After the installation is completed, you can run the program as usual
by selecting it from the Start menu item that was created during
installation.

You can view the example link topologies by selecting
File/Open from the menu, switching to the EXAMPLES subdirectory, and
choosing from among the example files listed there. After reading in
an example file, you can run a simulation by clicking on the green light
icon, and pressing OK in the Simulation Parameters dialog that appears.
After the simulation is complete as indicated by the status line, the
results may be view by double clicking on the yellow graph icons or the
BER icon at different points in the topology

To experiment with the CAD portion of the program, select File/New from
the menu to create a new topology, and click on OK to enter the CAD layout
window. Choose an icon from the left toolbar, and use the mouse to place
the icon in the layout. Select the link tool to connect icons. To view
component properties, right click on any component using the mouse.

Note that the manual for the program is online and can be accessed by
selecting the Help menu item, or the book icon on the top toolbar.
The manual contains a tutorial which describes each example in more detail.

Limitations of the Demo Version
-------------------------------

The following restriction apply to the demo program:

     1. You can draw any topology, but can not simulate it.
     2. You can simulate any example topology, but can not edit it.
     3. All output except screen graphics is disabled, e.g. you can not
          a) save any layout you have drawn
          b) save the simulation results
          c) print the layout or simulation results

In addition, the manual for the demo does not contain information on
user-defined models which is contained in the full version. Furthermore,
several directories such as UserMod, SuperBlocks, and ManufacturerLibrary
are empty in the demo version except for a README file which describes
the normal contents of those directories in the full version.

List of Examples
----------------

The EXAMPLES directory contains the examples documented in the tutorial.

In addition, the Docs directory contains references and validations of the
models contained in LinkSIM.
